What is trauma?
Memories and experience are how we navigate the world, steer clear of danger, and gain insight into what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes, however our memories and experiences can be so hard to deal with that they leave lasting negative impressions that make it extremely challenging to get beyond. This can happen on a conscious level or have deeper subconscious manifestations. Because, trauma by definition contains difficult emotional material, I pay close attention and care to ensure that my clients feels safe and secure first and foremost. Once safety is established, I then may explore more about the traumatic experience, examine the meaning of this experience for the client, and explore ways to more effectively manage and deal with the trauma. This may include techniques such as: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Therapy (CBT) , Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) , Exposure Therapy, and logo therapy. In treating a client suffering with traumatic experiences, events, or situations, a thorough clinical assessment will be included in my approach.
