Life is an adventure. Sometimes it feels like you’re floating on a lazy river. Other times it feels like you’re in the rapids in a leaky canoe, blindfolded, and you’ve lost both oars. Therapy can help you navigate both scenarios.

The focus of my practice is on life transitions. It can be the normal kind of transition, like changing careers, moving from being single to married or married to single, retirement, or the passing of a loved one. Even transitioning to loving and liking yourself more. All these normal transitions can be made less stressful and more satisfying with the support of your therapist.

Of passionate interest to me are the transitions that athletes make to a different career. I have 20+ years as a physical therapist, who has worked with both professional, collegiate, and self-motivated athletes. I know the emotional toll that being unable to participate in your sport, whether it is short or long term or from injury or retirement. I feel strongly that this transition needs to be processed with a knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate therapist who understands both the physical and emotional needs that this transition creates. I am that therapist.

Another area of passion is working with those transitioning due to a significant change in their health status. Whether it comes from a traumatic injury, surgery, or other medical diagnosis, the grief and loss a person feels during this transition is as real as the pain and weakness of the physical one. Both individual and group therapy can be provided for this population. This transition does not only affect the individual, but also the loved ones of the affected person. Both individual and group therapy can be provided for these caregivers. Anger, grief, depression, and even a questioning of your belief system can occur with a change in health status. Working with a therapist who is both knowledgeable in the medical field, as well as knowledgeable in the field of emotional health provides significant benefit. I am that therapist.

I tailor your therapy to YOU and the goals we set together to make your life more satisfying and less stressful. I will listen carefully to you with respect and compassion, providing a safe place to talk. I utilize a variety of theoretical frameworks including Solution Focused, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioral, and Narrative, Gottman and Relational Values. I often use a mix of these; it all depends on what I feel will help you achieve your goals for your life adventure.
