Diversity Statement

Louis Laves-Webb, LCSW, LPC-S diversity statement

Louis Laves-Webb, LCSW, LPC-S & Associates is committed to maintaining a clinical practice which is culturally sensitive, aware, and affirms a spectrum of diversity in its broadest sense.

Our ethical principles are grounded in the notion that people of every background can utilize our services with an expectation of respectful treatment. The professional ethics and standards of both Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Master/Clinical Social Workers place a high value in the inherent worth of each individual client(s) regardless of their gender expression and identity, ethnicity, race, size, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, affectional orientation, age, physical and mental abilities, religious beliefs, spiritual identities, or socio economic status.

Louis Laves-Webb, LCSW, LPC-S & Associates strives to provide a clinical atmosphere of human dignity and respect, and we welcome opportunities to explore or discuss any/all matters related to culture and diversity as on ongoing part of any conversations, concerns, or clinical material. We also recognize that culture is fluid and dynamic and that inherent in the promotion of diversity are inevitable differences in values and perspectives. We welcome the opportunity to explore these differences and we work to foster an environment that values and promotes healing and growth for the clients we serve and our staff.

Our Standards Include:

Cultural Competency

This advocates and insists upon self-awareness, cultural humility, and a commitment to understanding and embracing culture as paramount to an effective clinical practice.

Self-Awareness

We strive to identify, acknowledge, and appreciate our own cultural identities and those of others. This includes self-reflection upon privilege and power and the mindfulness and consideration of any/all potential clinical “blind spots”.

Cross-Cultural Knowledge

We understand that by definition we won’t know or “truly“ understand another’s culture. However, we strive to increase our knowledge base, to promote curiosity and education, and to cultivate an open mind and heart when considering cross-cultural influences. This may include areas such as: history, traditions, values, family systems, and expressions such as race and ethnicity; immigration and refugee status; tribal groups; religion and spirituality; sexual orientation; gender identity or expression; social class; and mental or physical abilities of various cultural experiences.

Louis Laves-Webb, LCSW, LPC-S & Associates strives to respond respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, spiritual traditions, and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms, and values the worth of individuals, families, and communities and protects and preserves the dignity of each individual.
